To deepen international exchanges in Southeast Asia and expand cooperation in emergency management, a delegation from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) visited Indonesia and Malaysia from August 11 to 18, 2026. The delegation included Yu Zhensheng, Director of the Planning and Development Division; Fang Zhiming, Vice Dean of the USST Business School; and faculty representatives Huang Zhongyi and Zhou Lixin. The visit also aimed to promote the internationalization of higher education and the integration of industry and education.
On August 12, the Emergency Disaster Reduction & Rescue Expo Indonesia 2026 (EDRR Indonesia 2026) opened at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo). As Indonesia's highest-level national professional expo platform in the emergency response field with the strongest government coordination, the expo brought together high-quality resources from across the global emergency industry chain. The delegation attended the opening ceremony upon invitation and toured more than 230 exhibiting enterprises from home and abroad. The delegation focused on cutting-edge emergency science and technology equipment and integrated solutions in disaster prevention and mitigation, urban safety, fire rescue, aerial emergency response, and water emergency response, gaining a comprehensive understanding of international emergency equipment technology frontiers and industry development trends.

Building on the expo platform, the delegation held project matchmaking talks with Dora Overseas (Shanghai) Business Consulting Co., Ltd. on Southeast Asia overseas-expansion training programs. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as localized training of emergency management talents, overseas safety capacity building for Chinese-funded enterprises, and the development of industrial training courses, promoting university-enterprise collaboration to serve the overseas development of Chinese enterprises.

During their stay in Indonesia, the delegation exchanged views with faculty and student representatives from Indonesia Defense University (IDU) and Budi Luhur University (UBL). The main topics included disaster simulation technology, emergency management discipline development, and innovation in talent cultivation models. The delegation shared USST's research achievements and practical experience in emergency governance and safety technology, and reached multiple academic cooperation intentions.
Academic exchanges with Indonesian university faculty and students
In Malaysia, the delegation's first stop was Universiti Malaysia Sabah, where they met with Professor Madya Dr. Mohd. Rahimie Bin Abd. Karim, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy, Deputy Dean Dr. Izyanti Binti Awang Razli, and faculty representatives. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on business talent cultivation, short-term student exchange, and joint participation in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, reaching preliminary cooperation consensus on international student competitions, academic workshops, and faculty visits.

Afterwards, the delegation visited INTI International University and was warmly received by Vice President Wu Kangwen. The delegation toured the campus infrastructure and held talks with the university and its faculty representatives. In-depth discussions were conducted on talent cultivation models, short- and long-term student exchanges, course mutual recognition, and credit transfer. The two sides also reached several preliminary cooperation intentions in jointly guiding student innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, hosting academic workshops, and promoting faculty visits.

This visit further expanded USST's cooperation network in emergency management and safety technology in Southeast Asia. The delegation formed consensus with multiple universities in the two countries on student exchanges, course mutual recognition, faculty visits, and joint training programs, laying a solid foundation for USST to optimize its internationalization layout, and enhance its international influence.
