. Our History

Our history began in May 1992 with the merger between Department of Systems Engineering and Systems Engineering Research Institute, two of which were one of China’s the earliest departments and institutions in 1979. In May 1999, our school was renamed as the Business School. The year 2006 saw the merger and reorganization into a new Business School in January with the original Commercial School, a school established in 1988 with its history dating back to the Commercial School in the downtown area of Hujiang University in the 1930s. Our school boasts a long history, a large number of alumni making numerous achievements and a great effect on the world. The school covers a wide range of disciplines with 2 Post-doctoral programs (Management Science and Engineering, Systems Science), 2 first-level discipline doctoral degree programs (Management Science and Engineering, Systems Science), 4 first-level discipline master’s degree programs, and 10 master’s degree programs for professional degree. In 2018, we officially passed AACSB international accreditation.

Since 2006, the Systems Science has been listed among Shanghai key disciplines, Shanghai first-class disciplines, Shanghai peak disciplines and Shanghai high-level first-class disciplines. Meanwhile, both the Management Science and Engineering have been listed among Shanghai key disciplines, Shanghai first-class disciplines and Shanghai plateau disciplines. In the fourth round of subject evaluation of China’s universities, Systems Science has ranked the third, Management Science and Engineering ranked the 19th.

Team Leader Professor Zhao Laijun, the dean of Business School. As a postdoctoral research fellow with a doctoral degree, he is a PhD supervisor, a distinguished professor at USST as one of the Hujiang leading talents, and a double employed professor in China Institute for Urban Governance of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In 2009, he was part of the “Dawn Project” of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. In 2010, he was selected into the Program for New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education. In 2011, he was in the list of the first “Rising Stars of Scientific Research Program” of the Shanghai Education System and won the Wang Kuancheng “Yucai” Award. In 2014, he was selected into the Shanghai “Pujiang Talent” Program. In 2016, he was selected into SMC-Morning Star Young Scholar Award Program (Professor Series) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In 2018, he won the Outstanding Contribution Award for Discipline Construction of Antai College Economics and Management of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and he also served as the chief expert of “Lookout Studio” at that university in 2019.

Social service He is or used to be a vice director of the specialized committee of water conservancy system of Systems Engineering Society of China, a member of the 4th discipline evaluation group of Shanghai Academic Degrees Committee (Management Science and Engineering Discipline), a member of the specialized committee of Underground Freight Transportation of China, a member of the Emergency Safety and Disaster Reduction Science Popularization Committee of China Science Writers Association, a member of the Sub-technical Committee of National Third-party Logistics Service and a member of the Expert Committee of Shanghai Logistics Association.

Over the past 20 years, as a project leader, he has presided over 52 scientific research projects, including 7 national-level projects (2 National Social Science Fund Projects & 5 National Natural Science Fund Projects), 12 provincial and ministerial projects and 31 projects sponsored by various enterprises such as Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau, Shanghai Municipal Safe Production Supervision Administration, Shanghai Municipal Economic and Informatization Commission, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Shanghai Municipal Postal Administration, Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, The Development Research Center of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, China National Aviation Fuel Group, China Great Wall Industry Corporation, etc.. In recent years, the national or ministerial awards he has won have added up to 15, which benefits from the monographs he wrote, the decision-making consultation reports he submitted and the projects he was involved in.

The team have carried out researches on important issues concerning emergency management, environmental management and logistics management for a long time, which helps them make a series of pioneering research achievements. They also have published more than 200 papers in authoritative journals at home and abroad, such as IISE Transactions, Transportation Research Part E, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Management Science in China, Journal of System Engineering, and System Engineering Theory and Practice. More than 50 political suggestions on the prevention and control policies of the new crown virus pneumonia, the management of hazardous chemicals transportation, the improvement of the air quality of the subway system, the layout planning of emergency shelters, and the management of smog have been adopted by the Central Office of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, more than 10 among which have been approved by leaders at the national, provincial and ministerial levels. The results were widely reported by media including CCTV, Economic Daily, Guangming Daily, China Youth Daily, Wenhui Daily, Legal Daily and Caixin.com.

. Basic Requirements 

1. Be politically determined, support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and have a high sense of responsibility and dedication.

2. Obey the law, behave well, and have no violations of law or discipline or have other bad records; Get a doctor's degree in recent 3 years; Aged under 35, in good health.

Have obtained or is about to obtain a doctor's degree in management science and engineering, systems science and other relevant discipline before getting access to the post-doctoral program, and have published high-level academic papers in domestic or international mainstream journals to demonstrate excellent academic literacy and potential.

4. Be engaged in post-doctoral researches for full-time.

. Remuneration Package:

1. The Hujiang post-doctoral will be subsidized more than 300,000 yuan per year. (Specific salary will be implemented with reference to the relevant standards of the state and University of Shanghai for Science and Technology)

2. The regular period of Hujiang post-doctoral program is 3 years, and the longest period should be no more than 6 years.

3. During the post-doctoral period, you can apply for an apartment provided for talents by our school at your own expense.

4. Those who have no professional tittle before entering the station can be identified as intermediate title once entering, and can apply for a senior title evaluation during the employment.

5. Excellent full-time post-doctoral fellows can apply for various post-doctoral programs and titles of talents in Shanghai.

6. Those who meet the outbound standards and have excellent comprehensive performance in scientific research can stay in school to teach.
