A Visit from the School of Science, Henan University of Engineering

On November 7, a delegation led by Liu Fujun, Party Secretary and Vice Dean of the School of Science at Henan University of Engineering, along with Wang Wanyong, Director of the Public Mathematics Office, and Dr. Tian Liutao from the Department of Information and Computational Science, visited the Business School, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST). They were warmly received by Fang Zhiming, Vice Dean of the USST Business School; Gu Changgui, Director of the Department of Systems Science; Liu Yuanhua, Party Branch Secretary; and Zhang Guang, Deputy Director of the Department. 

Liu Fujun expressed gratitude for the hospitality and introduced the School of Science, covering its history, disciplinary structure, faculty, and talent cultivation initiatives. He emphasized the intent to learn from USST's expertise in program development and talent training to support the establishment of its System Science and Engineering program. 

Fang Zhiming extended a warm welcome and outlined the Business School's strengths in disciplinary layout, research capabilities, and resource allocation. He highlighted USST's ongoing Comprehensive Reform strategy, which presents new opportunities for the Department of Systems Science. The School aims to enhance interdisciplinary team building, industry-academia collaboration, and high-level talent recruitment to support the development of the discipline.

Gu Changgui introduced the curriculum settings, talent cultivation, and scientific research directions of the Department of Systems Science. He stressed the importance of foundational mathematics, computer programming, and data analysis skills, as well as practical training through university-enterprise partnerships. Additionally, he shared insights on enrollment strategies, student employment, and research plans focused on complex systems in megacities. 

Both parties exchanged views on aligning systems science with regional industrial development, enhancing academic influence, and applying for national-level projects. The discussions deepened mutual understanding and laid the groundwork for future collaborations.
