Department of Public Finance and Taxation has a time-honored history and a profound academic foundation. In 1996, the department is approved to award the master degree in national economics. In 2000, the department of finance is established. In 2003, the department is approved to award the master degree in public finance. In 2008, the first-level discipline applied economics (economic system operation and control), including public finance and national economics as second-level disciplines, enters the key discipline project of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. In 2015, the department enrolls the undergraduate students in taxation. In August 2018, the department of finance is divided into two and the department of public finance and taxation is established. In 2021, the department is approved to award the master degree in taxation.

Aiming to cultivate advanced tax talents for the tax administrative institutions, the manufacture enterprises, and the modern service industries by taking advantages of the solid mathematical and technological background of our university honored with the title ‘Manufacture Huangpu Military Academy’. 

3. Aiming to cultivate the tax talents who can solve the practical tax problems and can provide the tax consultation service for the enterprises and families by taking advantages of our teaching team who has high academic levels and rich practical working experience.

Research Achievements:

The teaching team of taxation has strong research capacities and high teaching levels. We have undertaken two national research programs and 20 provincial research programs. More than 100 research papers are published on the journals indexed by the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), and the journals indexed by the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) such as the Journal of Management World, the Journal of World Economy, and Public Finance Research, etc. Some of them are reposted by Xinhua Digest and China Social Science Excellence, etc. The faculty members win the honored titles including ‘Shuguang Scholars’ and ‘Cross-century Discipline Leaders’, etc. The faculty members also guide the students to win the second prize of the 16th National College Students Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Work Competition ‘Challenge Cup’.

Graduates

In recent three years, the employment rate of undergraduates reaches almost 100%. The career choices include pursuing the master degree, studying abroad, working in the government administration, private enterprises, and foreign-funded enterprises, etc. Some outstanding undergraduates pursue the master degree through the postgraduate recommendation at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, study abroad at Australian National University, and work in Deloitte and the taxation bureau of Shanghai municipality, etc. The employment rate of postgraduates reaches more than 95%. 

Faculty 

The department of public finance and taxation has 10 faculty members, of whom two are professors, two are associate professors, and six are lecturers. All of them have doctoral degrees. Four of them have the postdoctoral study experience. Some of them have the overseas studying or visiting experience. Some of them have the practical working experience in the banks and the auditing and taxation departments, etc.
