As one of a series of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Institute of Systems Engineering, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, on the afternoon of September 5th, Business School held a symposium with the theme of “ Recall the extraordinary years, Pass on the essence of education” in conference room 108 of Gezhitang Building. Sun Yuedong, deputy party secretary, Ye Chunming, Deputy Secretary, Yao Xiuwen, Professor Che Hongan, Professor Fan Bingquan and other retired teachers as well as all the new teachers attended the symposium. Wang Wei, secretary of the Party Committee of Business School, presided over the symposium.
Secretary Wang Wei first summarized the background of the event with three Numbers: 1949, 1979 and 2019. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of the Institute of Systems Engineering, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. As the 35th Teacher’s Day is approaching, the Business School has welcomed 26 new teachers. Therefore, it is of special significance to hold this symposium in such a day. She welcomed the new teachers and extended her holiday wishes to all the teachers. Associate dean Ye Chunming introduced the development of the discipline in recent years, the achievements made in scientific research work, the future vision and the current challenges. He pointed out that the faculty members inherit the pragmatic and down-to-earth spirit of the older generation, which makes the Business School develop further. Especially in recent years, the new faculty members have injected new vitality into the school and made remarkable achievements in various work. Therefore, he has high hopes for the new teachers.
Later, the old teachers shared with the new teachers their decades of work experience and experience in University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.

Professor Che Hongan, founder of systems science at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, combined his experience of 67 years in the educational profession with the profound changes that have taken place in New China over the past 70 years. He encouraged new teachers to learn from the teachers around them, especially the three generations of science and technology who have been around for 40 years. Professor Che said he learned many excellent qualities from them. Professor Fan Bingquan, based on his own experience working in the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, made three points: first, the understanding should have spirit; second, the systems engineering is an inexhaustible treasure-house of thought and theory, if it can be integrated into the work, will be successful; third, there must be a certain width and solid foundation and interest. He hopes that new teachers and colleges can achieve greater results.
Starting from their own experiences and experiences, Ni Feng and Meng Fei, young teachers in the systems engineering department, said that as a teacher of the people, they feel great responsibility, so they must fulfill the mission entrusted and be a teacher of faith, a creative teacher.
“Be grateful and move forward.” said Zhou Huijun, a foreign teacher and high-end talent recruited by the Business School. He shared what he had seen and thought after coming to the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and said he would use what he had learned to make his contribution to health care reform, public health, and so on, to the satisfaction of his leaders and colleagues.
“Come to the first-class city, the first-class school, teach the first-class students.” Shi Baizhou, a teacher from Taiwan, said he was honored to work at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and was very grateful to the college and the school for allowing him to join the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology family. In the teaching process of undergraduate and graduate students, he gained a lot of harvest and sense of achievement.
Gong Defeng, who has been awarded “good teacher in students’ mind” and “Golden teaching award” for three consecutive years in University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Yan Ling, President of the labor unions of the college, Liu Qinming, dean of the Department of Industrial Engineering and other new and old teachers’ representatives have made speeches, and the atmosphere at the forum was warm.
Deputy Secretary Sun Yuedong, head of USST, on behalf of the University to welcome new teachers, sent the wishes to all teachers on the festival of congratulations. At the same time, he also thanked Professor Che Hongan and other senior members of Business School for the development of the college, the school made outstanding contributions. He put forward two requirements for new teachers: one is to go through a good political pass. He hopes that teachers will thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s educational thought, take it as their duty to do a good job in educating the people, strengthen the construction of teachers’ ethics and work hard to be good teachers with “four qualities”. Second, they should have good professional qualities, correctly handling the relationship between teaching and scientific research. He encouraged new teachers to carry on the fine traditions of the older generation and to combine their own advantages and characteristics to achieve more fruitful results.
