Introduction

Transportation Engineering was established in 1983, which is an important development direction in the construction of high-level university of USST (University of Shanghai for Science and Technology). In 1983, under the guidance of English Transportation System Engineering teacher class taught by American and Canadian teachers, the first Transportation research was carried out in our university, and the first transportation-related academic papers were written. In 1996, following the major of Transportation (system) Engineering was established, large-scale students majored in Transportation were began to enroll.

In 1998, the doctoral program of Transportation System Engineering was established in the first-level doctoral program of Management Science and Engineering, and began to cultivate high-level talents in Transportation discipline. In 1999, the China-Canada Cooperative Traffic Simulation Laboratory was established, and in 2002, it was named “the most successful cooperation project between the Chinese and Canadian governments”. In 2017, the discipline was included in the SciVal Spotlight international advanced characteristic research direction. In 2018 and 2021, it was approved twice as an innovation team for the “Super Large Urban Transportation System Engineering” in high-level local universities in Shanghai.

The discipline has more than 10 national and provincial talent titles such as National Science Fund for Excellent Youth Scholar, Shanghai Oriental Scholars, Dawn Program of Shanghai Education Commission, Shanghai Young Top-notch Talent Program, Shanghai Rising-Star Program, Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, Shanghai Yangfan Program, etc. More than 10 strategic cooperation agreements were signed with domestic leading companies in the industry, and the employment rate of postgraduates has continuously maintained 100% for many years. Key development directions include: Intelligent Transportation System Planning and Management, Hybrid Transportation System Design and Control, Green Transportation System Safety and Environment, and Transportation Power System Design.
