Leaderless Group Mock Interview Contest in the Business School successfully completed

To cope with the tough employment situation and fierce competition in the job market and to help students to accumulate experience and improve interview skill in an actual interview, also to help them scientifically and rationally deign and plan for their career, a Leaderless Group Mock Interview Contest was held by Business School, USST, in Conference Room 410, Economics & Management Building, on Nov. 10, 2021.

The host introduced the competition rules to the contestants and distributed the test questions at first. The topic of this mock interview was Survival in the Desert. The competition consisted of three parts: personal statement, free discussion, and summary speech.

In the personal statement, the contestants were very active and expressed their views and opinions clearly and concisely. Some contestants frequently came up with new ideas and thus were unanimously approved by the judges. In the free discussion session, the contestants played different roles according to their own characteristics. Some contestants played the leader to facilitate an orderly discussion; some were responsible for timing and reminded everyone when time was out; some acted as icebreakers and kept the discussion in a timely and effective manner etc. The contestants discussed intensely on the topic with thoughtful ideas, pushing the competition to a climax.

The judges commented on the performance of the contestants one by one after the interview. They focused on several questions, such as what is the face of the interview without a leader, what role each member should play, etc., to the contestants in the competition The performance of communication skills, analytical skills, cooperation and coordination skills, innovative thinking, emotional stability, and behaviors have been analyzed in detail. After a comprehensive evaluation by judges and experts, nine students finally won the first, second and third prizes.

The students told that they benefited a lot from this Leaderless Group Mock Interview Contest. First prize winner LIU Yuanming said: Mock interviews particularly have exercised our responsiveness to situations, crisis management, and personal emotional control as candidates in the set scenarios. It would help to apply for a job in the future. Not only did they experience the entire interview process, but more importantly, understood their own strengths and weaknesses better due to the guidance of professional teachers. Thus, the students could customize their preparations for future employment and continuously improve their competitiveness and leadership in job market.
