After the school entered the quasi-closed-loop management of epidemic prevention and control, online classes became the norm for students in Business School. Outside of class, they contributed for the prevention and control of the epidemic in their own way. Some of them volunteered for epidemic prevention and control in schools and communities, while others conducted research on epidemic prevention and control.
The sudden closed management of the community caught everyone off guard, and people were even more panicked after there were confirmed patients in the community. ZHANG Chennan from the Department of Transportation Systems Engineering took part in volunteer activities organized by the community in her spare time after returning to the community from school for home isolation. She was responsible for helping the streets staff and neighborhood committees to count residents' needs, contact suppliers, check the order content, and distribute the ordered dishes to residents. Some elderly people living alone in the community have problems such as difficulty in guaranteeing basic living materials and psychological anxiety. ZHANG Chennan and other volunteers came to visit and take care of them, and distributed supplies to meet their basic living needs. This made her understand that the living security and psychological assistance of the elderly living alone in the community should be the focus of the epidemic prevention and control. The volunteers' grouping of special people to help also made her feel the care and warmth of the neighbors.
During this epidemic prevention and control volunteer activity, I met many responsible companions. Their selfless dedication and drive moved me. Communist Party volunteers rose to the challenge and took the initiative to act. The spirit and the sense of mission of party members to go first have deeply infected me as a new party member, which made me awe and understand the responsibilities of being a party member. ZHANG Chennan said. Meanwhile, in this volunteer activity, I also realized the hardships and difficulties of the front-line anti-epidemic workers. Just ordering dishes for residents required four or five volunteers to complete the work together, and the rest of the epidemic prevention work was even more complicated.I am honored to be able to make a small contribution to the epidemic prevention. I am also grateful to all the anti-epidemic work and volunteers for their selfless contributions. At the same time, I call on everyone to do a good job of personal protection and actively cooperate with the epidemic prevention work during the special period. I believe that with the joint efforts of all members in the society, the epidemic will be brought under control soon!
After the closed management of the eighth dormitories on the South Campus, the students' three meals a day were guaranteed. What should they do if they need fruit? This was the first question that JIN Yajun thought of after the school took epidemic prevention and control measures. He is a graduate student, an activist of Party membership in the branch of public management and a candidate for the fourth principal assistant.
As an activist of Party membership JIN Yajun has always strictly demanded himself as a Communist Party member. On the second day after learning that students were restricted from traveling, he took the initiative to contact the Classmates' Fruit, the student entrepreneurial team of USST, and proposed an initiative to donate love fruits to alleviate the students' current difficulties, to ensure the fruit freedom for students who cannot leave school due to the epidemic through university-enterprise cooperation to overcome difficulties together. JIN Yajun actively communicated with the principal assistant instructors and various departments of the university to ensure the smoothly opening of the material channel under the premise of strictly complying with the school's epidemic prevention requirements. He also mobilized a team of student principal assistants, linked the graduate student youth league committee, graduate student union volunteers and other student forces to coordinate the receipt, delivery and distribution of supporting materials. In three days, more than 1,000 boxes of fruits were provided free of charge for students blocked in the eighth dormitory of the South Campus.
In addition to actively participating in volunteer activities for epidemic prevention and control, as members of Prof. ZHAO Laijun's team, MIM Mengmeng, JIN Yajun, YING Mingmin, XIE Linlan, ZHOU Jianghang, WANG Yang, and ZHANG Honghao followed Prof. ZHAO to assist Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control & Prevention every afternoon during the quasi-closed-loop management period. They coordinated and located the newly added cases the day before to help realize the digital transformation of text address information, which was used to judge the current situation and future development of the epidemic. Although the workload was heavy and basically every day was busy until 12 o'clock in the evening, in MIM Mengmeng's view, the team members were not tired but full of energy. On the one hand, we can also help prevent and control the epidemic online in the campus, which gave us a sense of accomplishment. On the other hand, our professional ability and academic level have been greatly improved by participating in the practice of fighting the epidemic.
Diligent volunteering and time-sparing scientific research were how they protect this city and this campus. As Prof. ZHAO Laijun said, Our teachers and students should not only be 'cooperators' of nucleic acid on time and 'bystanders' who pay attention to the development of the epidemic but should closely combine professional knowledge with the needs of social development. It was our honor to contribute our professional knowledge and skills to the prevention and control of the epidemic in Shanghai.” Although the power is small, it can still build a Great Wall of Steel for epidemic prevention and control. Let's wait for spring to bloom!
