USST Successfully Held the Final of the 3rd Shanghai University Open Big Data Analysis Challenge

On December 17, the final of the 3rd Shanghai University Open Big Data Analysis Challenge was successfully held at University of Shanghai for Science and Technology(USST). This year's challenge was organized by the Shanghai Business Administration Graduate Education Steering Committee, Shanghai Engineering Management Society, Shanghai Systems Engineering Society, Shanghai Big Data Alliance, and Shanghai Online Shopping Chamber of Commerce, and hosted by the Shanghai Business Administration Graduate Education Steering Committee's Special Committee on Industry-Education Integration, the  Industry School at Business School of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and USST's Institute of E-Commerce Development, in cooperation with Beijing Zhong Yun Guo Chuang Data Technology Company Limited and Yu An (Shanghai) Data Service Co., Ltd.

The opening ceremony of the final competition was hosted by Associate Professor Zhu Xiaodong from Business School of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. On behalf of the organizer, Prof. Xu Xin, Secretary General of Shanghai MBA Education Committee and East China Normal University, delivered a speech, in which he expressed a warm welcome to the leaders, judges and guests, participating teachers and students, business people and friends from the news media who attended this challenge. He briefly introduced the theme, features and format of the Open Big Data Analysis Challenge and wished the competition a great success. Following that, Prof. Cui Guomin, Dean of Graduate School of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Prof. Gao Yan, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Society of Systems Engineering and Professor of Business School of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Dr. Ma Huimin, Executive Secretary of Shanghai Big Data Alliance and Vice General Manager of Shanghai North High-tech Group Co., Ltd, and Ms. Song Yiqin, President of Shanghai Online Shopping Chamber of Commerce delivered speeches for the competition.

This year's competition, themed Livelihood and Enterprise Development in the Post-Epidemic Era, attracted 56 teams of nearly 200 undergraduate and graduate students teams from more than 10 universities in the Yangtze River Delta region, including Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Electric Power University, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai University of Applied Science and Technology, Anqing Normal University and Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College.  After strict evaluation by the judging committee in the preliminary stage, a total of 41 teams from seven universities were selected as finalists.

The final round took the form of an online defense and online judging. Twenty experts from Shanghai universities and enterprises gathered to comment on the entries and make targeted suggestions. In the ultimate PK stage, five teams competed for the Grand Prize. After fierce competition and fair and impartial evaluation by the expert group, the competition decided to award 3 Grand Prizes, 7 First Prizes, 10 Second Prizes and 16 Third Prizes.

At the closing ceremony, Associate Professor Liu Yong, the teaching director of the Department of Information Management and Information Systems, Business School of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, announced the winners and said that the award ceremony would be held at a later date after the results were announced without any objection. Finally, on behalf of the organizer, Liu Yong congratulated the winning teams and announced that the 3rd Shanghai Open Big Data Analysis Challenge for Universities had come to a successful conclusion.
