On June 2nd, 2023, Si Xiaofu, professor of QiuShi Lecture of Zhejiang University, gave a lecture entitled "Doing Valuable Management Research: My Thinking and Experience" for teachers and students of our school. The lecture was presided over by Zhao Laijun, dean ofthe Business School, and more than 300 teachers and students attended the lecture.
First, Si Xiaofu reviewed the development of management theories in China in recent decades and proposed that the core of management research is to understand the major needs of enterprise development and is value-oriented. Researchers use research to provide effective solutions to these problems. Then he elaborated on qualitative and quantitative research methods with specific cases and introduced several entrepreneurship research topics and recent research, including topics based on Chinese data, regional entrepreneurship and innovation, entrepreneurship related to digital technology, entrepreneurial ecosystem research, entrepreneurship and rural development, sustainable development, poverty reduction, common prosperity, resource patchwork, etc.
The attending teachers and students discussed with Si Xiaofu how to combine qualitative and quantitative methods and how to balance the consistency and innovation of research, etc. Si Xiaofu expressed that it was his honour to interact and exchange with teachers and students of Business School, and encouraged everyone to always maintain their enthusiasm for learning.
Finally, Zhao Laijun delivered a concluding speech and encouraged the teachers and students present to learn the struggling and hardworking spirit from Teacher Si, to do valuable management research based on the needs of society and enterprises and have a deep understanding of the domestic and foreign situation, to learn good qualitative and quantitative research methods, and to implement the researches into policy suggestions and management inspiration.
