To thoroughly implement the important directive spirit of "Enhancing Public Safety Governance and Improving the Social Governance System" in the report of the 20th CPC National Congress, the Department of Public Administration recently carried out a thematic education Party lecture in the Conference Room 506, Economic Management Building A.Prof. Zhao Laijun, dean and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Business School, was invited to give a special Party lecture entitled "Holding High the Great Banner of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Adhering to the Systems Thinking, and Improving the Level of Disasters Governance".Members of the Party branch of the Department of Public Administration and some teachers of the Department of Systems Science participated in the Party lecture.
Zhao Laijun first led Party members to review General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discussions on work safety since the 18th CPC National Congress, pointed out the importance of building a "Great Safety and Great Emergency" framework, and shared his understanding of professional concepts such as "system", "complex system" and "systems science" to the Party members in combination with his years of research and teaching experience, then proposed theoretical explanations and suggestions based on the "Great Safety and Great Emergency" framework for the generation mechanism and causes of disasters in China, as well as how to improve the level of work safety governance combined with current research hotspots and rich case studies, and discussed with the attending comrades on how to utilise the development opportunities of the disciplines of Public Administration and achieve professional upgrading and transformation.
The study of the special Party lecture helps all Party members of the department deeply understand the important directive spirit of "Enhancing Public Safety Governance and Improving the Social Governance System" and deeply understand the theoretical connotation of "systems science" and "emergency management", which has laid a solid foundation for promoting the high-quality development of Public Administration Disciplines and promoting the implementation of emergency management characteristics training plan. In the future, the Department of Public Administration will actively exert its professional expertise in emergency management in the aspects of curriculum construction, student training, and social services, contributing to creating a new situation in the development of emergency management.
