On July 28th, 2023, the Inauguration Ceremony of the International Exchange Center And the Opening Ceremony of China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade was held in China-SCO Local Economy and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area(SCO-DA)(Qingdao), marking the completion and opening of the operational entity of China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade, and the entry into a new stage of physical operation.
Zhang Xinzhu, member of Municipal Standing Committee of Qingdao, secretary of the Party Working Committee of SCO-DA, Hu Zhiping, deputy director of Center for Language Education and Cooperation, Li Xiaozhe, deputy director of Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, and Yu Rong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, attended the event and delivered a speech. Grigory Logvinov, deputy secretary-general of SCO, Li Gang, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee, and executive deputy director of the Administrative Committee of SCP-DA attended the event.
Nearly 300 leaders from relevant government departments, representatives from universities, educational institutions, industrial enterprises, and country representatives of SCO attended the event. Ma Jingbo, secretary of the Party Committee Fang Zhiming, professor of the Department of System Science, Li Ying, director of the Party and Government Comprehensive Office, and Zhang Baoming, director of EDP Center Comprehensive Office of Business School, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), attended the launching ceremony.
On September 17th, 2021, President Xi Jinping announced at the 21st Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization that "China will establish the China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade to promote multilateral economic cooperation with the organization". In January 2022, the China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade was launched in Qingdao; In March of this year, the Shanghai Cooperation Institute of Economy and Trade (Qingdao) was registered and established as the implementing entity to promote the entity operation of China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade. The newly opened International Exchange Center of China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade is an important turning point for the institute to transition from a transition period to an entity operation.
At the launching ceremony, the Business School of USST signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade. In the future, the two sides will jointly build a Business School, China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade, the Intelligent Emergency Research Institute, and a high-level think tank of the China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade. We will jointly explore various forms of academic and educational cooperation and exchanges in the areas of economic and trade cooperation and exchanges among SCO countries, the construction of the Belt and Road, the construction of the Intelligent Emergency Industry, the training of talents for regional economic development, and high-quality country studies among SCO countries.
