The Professional Degree Education Center (PDEC) Carried out the Quality Development Activities for the New Students of 2023

Adhering to the motto of honesty, integrity, diligence, benevolence; learning, reflection, vision, aspiration, Business School has always prioritized student-centered values and attached great importance to the orientation session activities for new students. In order to help them better adapt to the learning environment of USST and develop the core values of responsibility, integration, innovation and excellence, from September 7 to 10, nearly 500 new students from PDEC went on a quality development trip to Haiyan, Zhejiang province. The theme of the trip was working hard together, creating the future. The business management thinking was integrated into the games. The trip started the first lesson and encouraged new students to pursue their dreams in the upcoming semester. 

 

Colorful activities to strengthen responsibility consciousness

The tailor-made games, such as Fast and Furious, Business Empire, and Dragons Fetching Water, were designed to train students’ business management thinking. Through a series of challenges that emphasized teamwork, competition, and a win-win spirit, students could develop their sense of responsibility, communication skills, innovation abilities, and pursuit of excellence.

The Fast and Furious game requires team members to complete six levels cooperatively. Putting this game at the beginning is to help students establish the goal of challenging bravely and forging ahead. Students paid more attention to mutual cooperation and division of responsibilities. They tried to achieve optimal outcomes with minimal effort by enhancing team cohesion. 



Another game was Business Empire, where students worked in small groups to simulate company operations and obtain market access rights through auctions, bidding, etc. The acquisition of access rights is like a huge investment, and it doesn't guarantee a corresponding return. Companies need to innovate constantly and develop effective sales strategies to avoid financial losses. The members of the winning team said that in the market simulation, there were various opportunities to make money, and it was necessary for everyone to grasp the opportunities and collaborate with other companies. They also emphasized the need to use information to create value and break through stereotypes in the rapidly changing market environment.

 

Teamwork and integration are the keys to win-win outcomes

Her name is Wang Chen and she loves food; his name is Liu Jianye and he likes calligraphy...In the ice-breaking game, in order to let students get familiar with each other quickly, each student in the team had to repeat the names and hobbies of their previous team members. The team Juedui Geili led by its captain, got acquainted with each other in less than six minutes, and the members enjoyed discussing their hobbies. 

There are still positions such as market manager, logistics manager, and accountant. Which one suits you better? In the Crazy Market game, the leader of the team called Da’congming communicated with members to determine their positions. The team members were impressed by the captain's organizational and communication skills, which helped them achieve a high ranking in the game.

On the quality development activities base, new students made new friends quickly. Within half a day, they were able to elect a team leader, determine the team’s name and slogan, divide labor efficiently and work together to show the highlights of the team. 

At the end of the activity, a thank you session was specially set up. The coach said: In the two days of activities, in addition to thanking the teachers and yourself, who else should we thank? the unanimous response was teammates. That's right, it was the mutual support of teammates that made the difficult tasks easy, now please turn around and say thank you to the teammates behind you, the coach said. Different voices of thanks sounded in the air, and the students turned to their teammates and expressed their gratitude for their help and trust.

In the evening, all the teams performed at the party, singing and having fun together. The stage was filled with joy and laughter. 


New prospects

The new student quality development activities not only serve as a foundation for inheriting USST’s culture, but also a preliminary test for cultivating teamwork, innovative thinking, and building a dream for a wonderful future. Some students said the quality development activities have opened up a new world for me, helping us understand ourselves and view our own strengths and weaknesses accurately, while we also learn to be more supportive and understand others during the process of devotion. 

 

During the trip, new students gained a deeper understanding of the core values of responsibility, integration, innovation, excellence. Going forward, they plan to work and study with a more positive attitude.

These quality development activities not only enhanced the students' sense of responsibility, but also created some wonderful moments and provided them with the courage to build a dream for a better future.
