On December 12th, the Hujiang Economics and Management Forum Series (79th Session) was successfully held at the Lecture Hall on the fourth floor of Building A in the School of Management. The event featured a scholarly presentation titled “The Influence and Coping Mechanisms of Dysfunctional Mentoring Relationships” delivered by Zhonghui Hu, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration. Faculty and students from the School of Management actively participated in the engaging session.

The seminar delved into the increasingly prevalent challenges associated with mentorship programs in Chinese enterprises. Despite the growing adoption of mentorship as a crucial tool in human resources management, the negative aspects have begun to surface. However, both theoretical and practical understanding of the consequences of mentorship dysfunctionality, especially the crossover-influence between mentors and mentees and the mechanisms for addressing them, remains incomplete.

Addressing three key research questions, the lecture covered critical aspects of mentorship programs. It explored negative experiences in harmonious mentor-mentee relationships, examined potential repercussions for mentors in positions of higher authority and power, and provided strategies for enterprises to cope with and prevent mentorship dysfunctionality.

In conclusion, Ke Wang, a lecturer in the Department of Information Management and Information Systems, offered insightful commentary on the lecture. The event concluded with an engaging discussion among the participants, fostering a deeper understanding of the lecture’s content.
