The Final of the 4th Shanghai Universities Open Big Data Analysis Challenge was Held in Our School

On December 3, the final of the 4th Shanghai Universities Open Big Data Analysis Challenge was held in Business School. The event was hosted by the Sub-Committee for the Integration of Industry and Education of the Shanghai MBA Education Supervisory Committee, the Technology Innovation Committee of the Shanghai Engineering Management Society, the Shanghai System Engineering Society, as well as the Shanghai Big Data Alliance; and it was organized by USSTBS and the E-commerce Research Institute of USST.

With the theme of Data Crowdsourcing and Crowd Innovation, Empowering Sustainable Urban and Rural Development, the competition aims to actively leverage the advantages of university students in data analysis and modeling in the new era, to explore the valuable insights behind the data, to identify bottlenecks and opportunities in the process of urban and rural development, and to obtain in-depth awareness on sustainable urban and rural development. There were 50 teams from different universities participating in the final such as Fudan University, Tongji University, Shanghai University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai Institute of Technology, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Shanghai Business School, Anhui University and Nanjing Institute of Technology.

In the final defense, 20 experts from enterprises, governments and universities participated in the defense evaluation. They commented on the students’ works and put forward guiding suggestions. The opening ceremony of the final was presided over by Zhu Xiaodong, associate professor of the Department of Information Management and Information Systems of USSTBS and vice president of the E-commerce Research Institute of USST.

Zhao Laijun, dean of Business School, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer, in which he extended a warm welcome to the leaders of the organizers, judges and guests, participating faculty and students, etc., and gave a brief introduction to USSTBS, outlining the theme and characteristics of the competition, and wishing the event a great success.

Before the competition, Xu Xin, secretary general of the Shanghai MBA Education Supervisory Committee and professor of East China Normal University, Li Genguo, secretary general of the Shanghai Big Data Alliance and director of the Shanghai Supercomputer Center (SSC), Gao Yan, executive vice president of the Shanghai System Engineering Society and professor of USSTBS, and Peng Bin, deputy dean of USST School of Graduate Studies, delivered speeches for the competition.

At the closing ceremony, Liu Yong, deputy director of the Department of Information Management and Information Systems of USSTBS, announced the list of winners. There were 4 grand prizes, 8 first prizes, 12 second prizes, and 15 third prizes in total. The leaders of the organizers presented awards to the winning teams. Finally, professor Zhang Zheng, deputy dean of the Business School, delivered a closing speech and announced the end of the competition.
