The 13th Transport Research Forum (TRF) was held at the Shanghai Lantian Hotel from November 1 to 2, 2024. The event was hosted by the Transport Research Forum (Shanghai) Alliance and organized by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), with Qingdao University of Technology and Nantong University as co-organizers. The forum, themed “Intelligence Empowering Transportation, New-Quality Productive Forces Strengthening the Nation”, featured five sub-forums: Transportation Planning and Management, Transportation Information and Control, Vehicle Operation Engineering, Traffic Safety and Environment, and Outstanding Thesis and Dissertation. The event attracted nearly 300 scholars from prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Maritime University, Qingdao University of Technology, Nantong University, and Henan Polytechnic University.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Sheng Chun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the USST, and Prof. Lu Jian, Co-Chair of the Forum Organizing Committee and Professor at Tongji University, delivered welcoming addresses. They extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and scholars and expressed their hopes that this forum would help foster research in the transportation area, strengthen talent cultivation and academic exchanges, and promote the high-quality development of transportation disciplines. The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Zhao Laijun, Dean of the USST Business School.
Several distinguished experts delivered keynote speeches at the forum, including Prof. Yang Xiaoguang from Tongji University, who is Deputy Director of the Transportation Teaching Committee/Transportation Engineering Sub-teaching Committee under the Ministry of Education, and member of the Disciplinary Evaluation Group of the Shanghai Municipal Education Committee; Prof. Hu Hao from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), who serves as Director of the Publicity Department and Member of the CPC SJTU Standing Committee; Prof. Li Ye, Vice President of Shanghai Normal University; Prof. Wu Chaozhong, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Hubei University of Arts and Science and Professor at Wuhan University of Technology; and Prof. Zhu Xiaoning, who is Secretary-General of the Transportation Teaching Committee under the Ministry of Education, Vice Director & Secretary-General of the Higher Education Professional Committee of the China Communications and Transportation Association, Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Beijing Jiaotong University. Their keynote topics included The Essential Nature of Transportation Disciplines and its New-Quality Development, Analysis of High-Speed Rail Logistics Transport Models in the New Development Pattern, The Quadruple Drivers of Technology-Industry-Finance-Policy for the New-Quality Transport Dual Carbon System, Current Status and Research Practices of Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technologies, and High-Speed Rail Logistics Market Demand and Scalable Transport Organization.
Prof. Yang Min, Head of the Key Field Innovation Team at the PRC Ministry of Transport and Vice Dean of the School of Transportation at Southeast University; Prof. Yu Bin, National Outstanding Youth Fund Awardee, recipient of the Ministry of Education’s New Century Excellent Talent Support Program, and professor at Beihang University; Prof. Sun Jian, National Outstanding Youth Fund Awardee at Tongji University; and Prof. Ding Chuan, Ministry of Education’s Young Changjiang Scholar, winner of the “Young Top-notch Talent Program” and “Young Science and Technology Talent Program” of the PRC Ministry of Transport, and professor at Beihang University, chaired the sub-forums and delivered insightful reports.
During the closing ceremony, Prof. Yang Xiaoguang, Co-Chair of the Forum Organizing Committee, delivered the summary speech. He stated that the forum provided an excellent platform for strengthening talent cultivation and academic exchanges in the transportation sector and contributed to the development and construction of transportation disciplines. The participating experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on the construction and development of China’s transportation industry, as well as major transportation issues. The organizer for the next forum was passed from the USST to Nantong University. The closing ceremony was presided over by Prof. Han Yin, Co-Chair of the Forum Organizing Committee and USST Academic Leader of the Transportation Discipline.
