Hwasoo YEO, Professor of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, was Invited to Deliver a Lecture at the Business School

Updated:2024-11-22

On the morning of November 21, Hwasoo YEO, professor of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), gave an academic lecture entitled “Understanding Driving Behavior: From Humans to Autonomous Vehicles.” The lecture was hosted by Zhao Jing, vice dean of USSTBS, and was attended by Liu Weiwei, Dean Assistant, faculty members and students of the business school.

Prof. YEO Hwasoo analyzed human driving behavior and presented the corresponding data. He explained that understanding driving behavior was fundamental to improving road safety, optimizing traffic flow, and advancing autonomous vehicle technology.Key traffic phenomena, such as traffic instability and hysteresis, were explained using asymmetric theory, alongside recent observations of the real-world behavior of vehicles equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). By integrating insights from human factors and traffic flow theory, the professor identified behavioral patterns and discrepancies that shaped vehicle interactions and traffic efficiency. Finally, he made suggestions for enhancing human-vehicle interfaces, improving autonomous vehicle algorithms, promoting a harmonious coexistence of human and autonomous drivers on the road.

The lecture

After the lecture, Prof. HwasooYEO interacted with the faculty and students and answered their questions in detail.

Q&A session

Afterwards, Zhao Jing expressed his warm welcome to Prof. HwasooYeo. He introduced the talent cultivation, faculty team building, scientific research, and internationalization process of the business school. He hoped that both sides would continue to strengthen exchanges and promote mutual cooperation for the high-quality development of USSTBS.

Professor Hwasoo Yeo introduced the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and he also expressed his expectations for this visit.
