On the afternoon of June 3, the “Meeting AI, Foreseeing the Future” undergraduate Artificial Intelligence (AI) program information session was held at the Business School. Nearly one hundred freshmen from the College of New Students attended the event. Organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence, the event aimed to help students understand the curriculum system, career prospects, and foster direct communication between faculty and students.
At the beginning of the event, Liu Yong, deputy director of the AI Department, briefly introduced the program’s founding vision and its talent cultivation goals. He stated that AI has become an important support for the country’s strategic emerging industries. Adhering to the concept of new engineering, the school gives full play to the cross-disciplinary advantages of “artificial intelligence algorithms + management” to cultivate high-level innovative talents. The school has formed a progressive cultivation chain from undergraduate to postgraduate programs. In the future, it will continue to improve the curriculum and practical platforms to provide students with diverse ways to achieve success.
Subsequently, student representatives from the Class of 2021 majoring in Artificial Intelligence shared their experiences. Zhang Like was recommended for admission to Jilin University. He has won national awards in competitions such as the Computer Design Contest. Shen Luoyun is about to pursue a master’s degree at King’s College London. During his time at school, he won scholarships three times, participated in seven research projects, and published one SCI paper. Zhang Jingyan, who ranks third in his major, has been recommended for admission to East China Normal University.
Professor Fan Chongjun, the director of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, gave a special report on “Development and Challenges of General Artificial Intelligence”. From the perspectives of technological breakthroughs in large-scale models, AI applications, AI security and ethics, he elaborated on the future development of general artificial intelligence and the demand for talents. Fan pointed out that students majoring in AI should not only master algorithms but also cultivate systematic thinking and a sense of social responsibility.
Teacher representatives from the Department of AI, including Zhu Xiaodong, Liu Chen, Zhao Jinghua, Zhou Yiwei, Yao Danli, and Wang Ke, introduced the core professional courses and research directions, such as deep learning, large-scale model technology, and intelligent robots, as well as the major laboratories in intelligent emergency response, intelligent manufacturing, and intelligent transportation. The faculty team encouraged students to participate in scientific research and disciplinary competitions.
During the Q&A session, students present raised questions about AI courses, academic competitions, recommended postgraduate, and overseas exchanges. The faculty and graduate representatives answered the questions and offered suggestions on learning methods and time arrangement.
This event helped students understand the characteristics and prospects of the artificial intelligence major, stimulating their interest in AI technology. The Department of Artificial Intelligence will continue to optimize the curriculum system and expand practical platforms to assist students in realizing their academic and career dreams in the “AI +” era.
