On the morning of July 25, Academician David Ríos Insua from the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences and his delegation visited our University. Zhu Xinyuan, the president of USST, met with the distinguished guests, accompanied by representatives from the comprehensive office, International Affairs Office, as well as the Business School.
Zhu Xinyuan, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome to Academician Insua and his delegation. He introduced the university’s history, disciplines, and achievements in internationalized education. He highlighted that Academician Insua had played a pivotal role in advancing collaboration between USST and the Spanish National Research Council. President Zhu expressed his hope that with the support of Academician Insua, the two parties could deepen high-level scientific research cooperation, further driving the university’s ‘Double First-Class’ construction.
Insua expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highly commended the university’s achievements in disciplinary development, scientific research, and internationalized education in recent years. He stated that it was a great honor to contribute to the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. He emphasized that in the future, he would promote more substantial cooperation to facilitate academic exchanges between China and Spain.
At the meeting, Qian Ying, Professor of Business School, reported on the application for “World Association for Complex Systems” (WACS), including its constitution and organizational structure. The association will effectively enhance the university’s international influence in complex systems and provide a high-level communication platform for scholars worldwide.
Subsequently, the two sides engaged in discussions on specific topics such as joint scientific research, student exchanges, and international cooperation projects, and reached a consensus on the future cooperation.
After the meeting, Academician Insua met with Gao Yan, Professor of the Business School, and Huang Qin, a doctoral student majoring in Management Science and Engineering in the class of 2024. They exchanged views on collaboration under the faculty-student community initiative, as well as specific arrangements for Huang Qin’s upcoming joint training at the academician’s research team this September. This meeting laid a good foundation for the future research cooperation and talent cultivation between the two sides.
