Professor Si Xiaofu Invited to Give a Lecture at USST

On January 14, the “Hujiang Observation” outstanding academic course was held at the Jungong Road Campus. Si Xiaofu, a member of the Development Strategy Advisory Committee(DSAC) of the Business School, a Qiushi Chair Professor at Zhejiang University, and a tenured professor at University of Pennsylvania, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Core Elements and Development Models of Successful Entrepreneurs in the AI/Digital Technology Era”. The lecture was presided over by Zhao Laijun, the dean of the School and the director of Professional Degree Education Center(PDEC). Zhang Zheng, the deputy dean and deputy director of PDEC, Meng Chenli, the director of PDEC Comprehensive Office, as well as faculty members and students attended the lecture.

Professor Si emphasized his commitment to “conducting valuable and contributive management research.” He stated that the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the interaction modes between humans and machines, and between humans and nature, marking the beginning of a new era. This will have a significant impact on the research in fields such as new organizational structures and new business models, machine learning, and human resources. 

Under these circumstances, Professor Si outlined eight core elements essential for entrepreneurial success in AI/digital technology landscape: Identifying certainty amid uncertaintyPassionResilienceEntrepreneurial alertnessCompetence in AI and Data Technology (DT) R&D and application; Adversity Quotient (AQ); Intuition and insight; Self-adaptability.

Following the lecture, participants engaged in discussions on topics such as “AI in scientific research,” “AI and the silver economy,” and “AI’s impact on employment.” Professor Zhao concluded by thanking Professor Si for his insights, noting the lecture provided invaluable guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs in the AI/digital era.
