On November 12, the “Introduction to Literature Reading and Scientific Research” lecture was held in the fourth teaching building 414 of the South Campus. It was lectured by Ms. Liang Shidong, associate professor of the Department of Transportation Engineering of the Business School, from systems science, finance, industrial economics, more than 180 doctoral and master students from labor economics, management science and engineering, systems engineering, transportation engineering, and public administration attended the lecture. The lecture is one of the series of activities of the Business School in 2020 “I and Science and Ethics”, co-sponsored by the Graduate Student Union of the Business School and the General Branch of the Graduate Student League.
In the lecture, Mr. Liang Shidong gave lectures on how to find documents and how to carry out research, guiding students to persevere in scientific research based on reading a large number of documents. Teacher Liang believes that literature reading and introduction to scientific research are the self-cultivation of graduate students. Mastering the three basic skills of mathematics, computer and English is the foundation of scientific research. Innovative and critical ideas are particularly important. Teacher Liang introduced to the students the classification of documents, the relationship between databases and journals, the reading process of documents, and how to find documents. Combined with his own research habits and focus, he explained to the students the preparations and precautions for scientific research. In terms of document classification, Mr. Liang focused on important journals such as SCI retrieval and EI retrieval; when he talked about databases and journals, he introduced the coverage of CNKI and Wanfang; in terms of document reading, Mr. Liang hopes that students will pay close attention to current research hotspots, Master the latest research methods and research topics, and find innovative entry points; in terms of searching for documents, Mr. Liang took our school’s database as an example to show how to cleverly search for Chinese and foreign documents and the general process of submission. Based on literature search and reading, Mr. Liang explained how to further carry out research work, how to quickly make breakthroughs in research and broaden their horizons, and placed high hopes on the graduate students present.
The lecture lasted for an hour and a half, and the audience was full. The students were attracted by Teacher Liang's wonderful lectures. During the interactive session, the students raised questions and doubts encountered in scientific research to Teacher Liang, and Teacher Liang answered them one by one.
In this lecture, Mr. Liang carefully gave the students the introductory work of academic research and warned the students to be patient and persevere, devote time and energy to scientific research. How to do scientific research work, time, time, time! This is Teacher Liang's answer to scientific research work. I hope that the majority of graduate students will seriously participate in scientific research with what Mr. Liang said: give up illusions and prepare for battle.
