In order to promote the further development of the discipline of Transportation System Engineering (TSE) and the construction of the first-level doctoral degree in TSE, the Department of TSE held an expert communication meeting in the second meeting room at the USST-BS on Nov 11, 2021. Prof. FAN Bingquan, the founder of the discipline of TSE, was invited as the keynote speaker. Prof. HAN Yin, the discipline leader of the Department of TSE, Prof. ZHAO Jing, the head of the Department of TES, and Dr. YAO Jiao, the Party Secretary, and other faculties attended this seminar.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. ZHAO Jing. He first expressed his sincere thanks to Prof. FAN Bingquan for attending this meeting. After that, Prof. FAN Bingquan delivered a lecture on The Development of Transportation Discipline in USST . Prof. FAN started his lecture with three aspects: the development history of the Department of TSE, the experience in the journey of discipline construction and the suggestion of applying to be the first-class doctoral degree of TSE. He said that the Department of TSE was developed IN the premise of reform and opening up, along with the development of Shanghai, and with the strong support of the national ministries and commission. Thus, it is the result of the favorable weather conditions, geographic advantages, and the unity of the people.
As for the experience in discipline construction, Prof. FAN said that the concepts, ideas and methods of system engineering are very useful to guide the design of scientific and technological pathways and the team organization. He emphasized that doing scientific research requires not only solving equations but also listing equations. Finally, Prof. FAN expressed his earnest hope for the successful application of doctoral degree program. He suggested that we should highlight the advantages of the discipline, work on the shortcomings and take advantage of the strengths, and most importantly, have vision, tenacity and aspiration.
