Commencement and Degree Conferment Ceremony was held for the Students of MBA/MPA/MEM/MPAcc of the Year 2020 and 2021 from the Business School USST

Commencement and Degree Conferment Ceremony was held for the Students of Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration, Master of Engineering Management, Master of Professional Accounting of the Year 2020 and 2021at the Grand Auditorium of USST in the morning of Nov 14. People present in the ceremony were Prof. LIU Ping, Vice-President of USST, Prof. CUI Guomin, Vice Dean of Graduate School), Prof. ZHAO Laijun, Dean of Business School and Director of Professional Degree Educational Center, Prof. ZHANG Zheng, Vice Dean of Business School and Director of MBA program, CHE Liping Director of MPA program, YE Chunming, Director of MEM program, YU Qianlong, Deputy Director of MPAcc program, TIAN Peiqi, the first president of MEM Alumni Society, representatives of advisors and faculties of these programs, more than 140 graduates. The ceremony was presided by Prof. Zhang Zheng, who is a vice dean of the BS-USST and also the deputy-director of Professional Degree Education Center.

The ceremony began when everyone sung the National Anthem in solemnity.

First, Dean ZHAO Laijun gave an opening speech. On behalf of the school, he congratulated the students for successfully completing the program and obtaining the degree. At the same time, he appreciated the presence of school leadership, guests, and teachers. All people there witnessed the glory moment of the graduating students of the Year 2020 and 2021.

Prof. Zhao, Dean of the BS-USST commented that the year 2021 marked the 100th anniversary of Chinese Communist Party and the 115th birthday of USST. Therefore, the BS-USST and the subordinate departments independently organized various activities for the sake of celebration. Over the past 15 years, the new BS-USST has made great efforts and progressed to be a leading business school in the field which laid a strong foundation for future development. The glory should be attributed to the hard work and dedication of leadership, faculties and students through generations.

Then Dean Zhao reviewed the journey of constructing education system for professional degree. In 2003, USST was approved by the Ministry of Education and the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to be one of the fifth batch of institutes administering MBA program and admitted the first batch of MBA students in 2004; In 2010, MPA program was approved among the fifth batch of qualified institutes and subsequently admitted the students in 2011. In the same year, MEM program was approved among the first batch of qualified institutes to offer MEM program in China and admitted the first batch of students in 2011. In addition, in November 2018, USST rose to be a cooperation institute with International Project Manager Professional (IPMP) Accreditation for MEM degree, simultaneously assuming the role of training base for IPMP talents. In 2017, the BS-USST was qualified among the seventh batch of institutes to offer MPAcc program and admitted the first batch of students in 2019. Now, the graduation of the first MPAcc postgraduate students marked the next chapter in the history of professional degree education of USST. May we celebrate this great moment!

Finally, Dean Zhao asked the students to keep attending to and supporting the construction and development of USST, making proposals and visiting Alma Mater often. According to Prof. Zhao, students would remember the school motto “信义勤爱，思学志远” , pursuit their dreams and serve the mother land, in the end make more and more contributions to the cause of the Party and country. At the same time, he blessed the students of good health, great career and family happiness.

Prof. CUI Guomin, Vice Dean of Graduate School read out the decision by the Degree Awarding Committee USST to confer the Master Degree on the MBA/MPA/MEM/MPAcc students of the year 2020, 2021. The leadership attending the ceremony issued the degree certificates.

During the ceremony, graduates presented souvenirs to the BS-USST which were accepted by Dean Zhao and Vice Dean ZHONG Yongqing on behalf of BS-USST.

Ms. Zhu Yinhui, a graduate of MPAcc 2021 represented all graduates of MBA, MPA, MEM, and MPAcc to give a speech. Her heart-felt words were as follow. “Today we have finally graduated. Hereby I present my great gratitude and applauses to the faculties, classmates, family and friends for their generous assistance along the journey of my postgraduate program, and also myself for persisting in my professional pursuit. Two years ago, with the aspiration of returning a university for advanced education, I joined the USST for a Master’s Degree. I was so encouraged and excited while listening to the speeches in the admission ceremony. Two-year program has flown by, and right now I feel fulfilled and emotionally attached. I have got most of the program owing to my choice of the BS-USST. During my study at USST, the faculties taught us not only skills and techniques, but also principles of living a good life. They incarnated the spirit of the school motto “integrity, righteousness, diligence, love, pondering, learning, aspiration, ambition”. In such a wonderful environment shaped by the teachers and university, we were encouraged to move forward by working hard in an innovative manner. In the era of worldwide transition, we should never forget the lessons from our history and keep in mind our original aspiration. We should envision the future and yet know the reality.

Shen Li as a representative of teachers firstly celebrated successful graduation of graduates, made wishes for graduates’ good career, have ambition for your life in new stage of their life in her dialogue. Shen Li said that during two years, students came here with their ambition, right here, at your painful and happy campus life, at your studies, balance between works and life, at diverse exciting discussion in and out of your class, brainstorm, witnesses everyone’s wisdom transition and passion burst into bloom. Today, graduates are about to start their new career, as teacher and seniors, mixed feelings, make things in my minds shape one word “first one,” find your way, love your all; second, keep your feet on the ground with your heart in your mouth; third, keep your initial inspiration, study for all lifetime. These dialogues seem like a gift to send everyone who is about to leave this campus, goes forward with yours. She wished that graduate keeps in mind school discipline, take your knowledge and passion, by integrating individuals’ development with evolution of society, invest in country establishment and national revival. Celebrate that at the most shining time of your life, catch up opportunity to improve yourself, have a long way to look forward, be of great premise! This school is forever your supporter, also wait for that graduate come back to this campus.

Dr. TIAN Pei, a graduate of MEM program, represented the alumni and gave a speech in the ceremony. He said he was honored to represent the previous graduates of MBA, MPA, MEM, and MPAcc programs at the time of graduation of new students. Mr. Tian said, “ We all are dream-pursuer coming to USST to further our education from diverse sectors and various places. In the spirit of school motto, faculties have put great efforts in designing curriculum, delivering the teaching and cultivating the students. We learned a lot in analyzing and solving the problems in a high attitude, optimizing our solutions. Our judgment, thinking, academic and practical skills have been improved. Gradually, we have become better and better. We do appreciate the school for its programs, faculties for excellent guidance and for classmates for caring each other.” Lastly he shared three things: First, never forget who you are, a graduate of USST; Second, always explore and innovate, going all out to be an outstanding manager; Third, always focus on self-improvement, contributing to the society as a citizen.

At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Liu Ping, Vice President of USST, made a closing speech. He firstly congratulated the students on their graduation and conferment of professional degree of MBA/MPA/MEM/MPAcc on behalf of the USST. He also paid his respects to the faculties and staff for contributing wisdom and working hard in the development of education. Finally, he commended the speeches of the representatives of the graduates, faculties and alumni.

Subsequently, Prof. Liu Ping, Vice President of USST, stated that USST has a long history of business education dating back to 100 years ago when the Hujiang University set up a famous the largest business school in China. Since the reform and openness of China, USST and MIT Sloan School of Management launch a collaboration named “Chinese Manufacturing Leadership Training Program,” which pioneered in cultivating high-end talents in management; In recent years, USST, responding to the city strategy of “Five Centers,” and “Four Brands” Shanghai in Shanghai, has provided many talented managers to Chinese manufacturing sector in the principle of fostering internationalized, technically-capable, and innovative talents. USST has long been recognized as the leading institutes in the areas of Power Engineering and Engineering Thermal Physics, Optical Engineering, and Management Science. The superiority and characteristic of these disciplines were nationally accepted. The BS-USST, created a milestone for intersectional business education across economics, management, science and engineering. After over a decade of reform and innovation, the quality MBA/MPA/MEM/MPAcc programs has improved year by year. These programs still have great potential for future development. Up to date, four programs have educated 3,003 students in total among whom 2,224 students earned their degree. Equipped with professional knowledge and management skilled, graduates emerged in the market as elite managers in the areas of business, public administration, engineering and accounting. It is such a great success that no one can miss.

In the end, Vice President of USST Liu Ping presented his farewell words “integrity, righteousness, diligence, love, pondering, learning, aspiration, ambition” . It is hoped that whether you work in business sectors or public sector, you should uphold the principle of integrity, pursuit of justice and truth, performing your duty diligently, focusing on progress, loving others as yourself, being grateful and a lifetime learner, aiming high but being realistic, trying to be a pillar of the nation and society. He then wished the graduates Health! Happy Family! Successful Career!

The ceremony concluded in cheers and enthusiasm. After that, school leadership, faculties and graduates took a commemorative group photo.
