“The seventh event of artificial intelligence Salon & the 1st digital economy lecture” was held in the 2nd conference room located in the Block A of Economy & Management Building on the afternoon Nov 9. More than 100 faculties and students majoring in management science and engineering, system science or system engineering, including Prof. MA Liang, Prof. FAN Chongjun and Prof. LIU Yong, participated in the event.
This event invited Prof. CHEN Hongmin from Antai College of Economics and Management of Shanghai Jiaotong University (STJU), to give a lecture on the topic of Sharing Economy: Development Stage and Survival Space . Prof. Chen is the Vice Chairman of Chinese Society of Management Science and Engineering, Counselor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of System Management. The salon was hosted by Professor Fan Chongjun.
Prof. Fan first expressed his gratitude to Prof. Chen for the keynote speech. He said that the digital economy developed rapidly in China. The growth rate of the digital economy has been maintained at more than twice the GDP growth rate in recent years. In 2020, the scale of China's digital economy added a monetary value of 39.2 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%, accounting for 38.6% of GDP, i.e. an increase of 2.4 percent year-on-year. The digital economy has grown more than 3.2 times faster in proportion than the nominal GDP growth rate during the same period. The business school hopes to contribute to the development of the digital economy by launching lectures on the digital economy, which is our motive and intention to hold such salons.
The keynote speaker, Prof. CHEN Hongmin, is mainly engaged in research on the business model innovation of platform-based enterprises, transformation of the healthcare industry, and enterprise digitalization. He undertook more than ten national projects including Research on the Business Model of Platform-based Enterprises, Research on the Competitive Strategy of Internet Platform Enterprises in Industries with Bilateral Platform Features, Research on New Production Relations in the Development of Industrial Internet. He also has got many publications such as monographs like Platform Competition, Bilateral Markets and more than 300 papers.
In his lecture, Prof. Chen firstly introduced the three stages in the development of the sharing economy and its characteristics and transformation mechanisms in easy-to-understand language and use vivid cases. Based on the bilateral market theory, he constructed a competition model illustrating the relationship between the sharing platform and the professional platform. He also discussed in depth the advantages and disadvantages of the two platforms and their relationship and conditions in the market. Finally, Prof. Chen analyzed and summarized the impact of the sharing economy on social welfare as per the social welfare function.
In the interactive session, Prof. Chen actively discussed with faculties and students about the current situation and future of the domestic sharing economy. The participants discussed enthusiastically and benefited a lot from this lecture.
At the end of the event, Prof. MA Liang, on behalf of the management science and engineering discipline, faculties and students, expressed his sincere gratitude to Prof. Chen. He talked about a long story between the system engineering, management science, engineering disciplines of BS- USST and the College of Economics and Management, STJU. He made a positive affirmation on this event.
