Proud!!! The curling referee at the Winter Olympics is our USST alumni

Updated:2022-02-08

Romantic Winter Olympic opening ceremony, exciting competitions, and top stream Bing dwen dwen swept the country... In Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, which attracts worldwide attention, our USST alumni are making contributions. WANG Jue, the 2011 alumnus of the business school of USST, went to the Beijing Winter Olympic Games as an international technical official of the Winter Olympic Games.

Curling fate of the Winter Olympic referee

In the list of international technical officials for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games published by the World Curling Federation, four Chinese referees were selected, including WANG Jue, who served as the referee of the curling competition of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

WANG Jue was linked to curling during the World women's curling Championship in 2009. At that time, by watching the Chinese women's curling team winning the championship for the first time with 12 consecutive victories, WANG Jue, who has always loved sports, started to have a strong interest in curling. After graduating from USST in 2011, she followed her heart and devoted herself to the sports industry, and officially became a curling coach in 2017.

Curling is known as chess on the ice. It is not only a comprehensive test of physical and mental strength for contestants, but also a great challenge for referees. With 147 matches in 19 days, the curling competition is the event with the most matches and the longest schedule and one-day competition time in the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

It's hard to focus on the referee's game for up to two or three hours and keep a clear mind when dealing with all kinds of mistakes and disputes. We always say that the curling sport is very tough. If you want to be a good curling referee, you must first have full love for this sport, otherwise you can't stick to it.

In order to perform well during the Winter Olympic competition, WANG Jue has done a lot of preparatory work, including understanding the competition rules, maintaining physical fitness, and learning the language... She even prepared some knowledge of Chinese traditional culture. The Winter Olympics is during the Spring Festival. I think if foreign friends are interested in our culture, I can introduce it to them. We have made a lot of preparations. It is a long process. We are slowly accumulating our effort every day and want to present our best state to the Winter Olympics.

A consistent love of sports

WANG Jue, who practiced track and field since childhood, has a natural cordiality for sports. Then, what is her college life in USST look like? USST has a very good sports atmosphere, which makes me always maintain my love for sports besides study. WANG Jue recalled with a smile that she was the director of the sports department of the student union of the business school at that time. Basically, she would participate in all sports-related events, or organize students to participate in basketball, badminton, volleyball competitions, etc.

WANG Jue is also active in USST's annual sports meeting. What impressed her most is that she participated in many university sports events in her junior year and won honors for business school. In addition, among various sports associations in the school, WANG Jue joined the Taekwondo Association, which has enriched her college life. The university has provided me with many opportunities related to sports. I have also participated in USST team training and participated in the college students' sunshine league on behalf of the university. For me, this is a very valuable experience.

The consistent love of sports has supported WANG Jue from curling rookie to the referee of the Winter Olympics. WANG Jue also hopes that the younger generation of USST can cherish their college time, study hard, find what they really love, and work hard for their future career goals.

I majored in international economics and trade in the business school of USST. Although the work I am engaged in now is not closely related to economics, the study of these courses has cultivated the ability of logical thinking and enhanced my comprehensive ability, which is the 'confidence' to face various challenges in the future. College time is not used to 'lie flat', but you should be more clear about what you want, and then you will continue to work hard at this stage for it.

Follow WANG Jue closely to watch the Winter Olympics

Chinese traditional culture 24 solar terms countdown, ice-breaking five rings, unique and warm ignition ceremony... WANG Jue sat at the bottom of the big screen to witness the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games, which is full of Chinese romance. As soon as the music and lights in the venue were turned on, I felt a surge of emotion. The fireworks bloomed, the Chinese national team delegation entered, and the national flag and Olympic flag fluttered in the wind. I felt the power of a big country, especially I was proud and full of unparalleled national pride!

The venue of the curling event is the ice cube. WANG Jue went to the ice cube to participate in the Winter Olympic test competition last October. This time, she returned to the home court. She felt familiar and novel: the whole publicity and scene production is full of Winter Olympic elements, and the busy reporters in the venue show the public's attention. WANG Jue also tried to use a vlog to record her winter Olympic trip. Usually when I am free, I will take some small videos recording work. The videos of previous competitions and training will also be edited and sent to my media account. I think it is interesting and also want to keep it as a souvenir. This also helps to make more people feel the beauty of sports.

The close experience of the Winter Olympics is also full of many interesting little details. Catering will be provided in the venue, and some interesting food will be designed on the daily menu. What impressed WANG Jue most was that a curling venue was designed for lunch, on which small curling-shaped meals were placed. Everyone guessed with great interest what the small curling pot like meal was, chocolate? Or cake? The result was actually the boneless chicken claw with pickled pepper, which was really novel at that time.
