Academic Salon for Young Scientists -- The 27th event of Academic Series of “Hujiang Economy & Management Symposium”

On May 25th, the Hujiang Economy & Management Symposium was held online. Dr.Fei Meng, an associate professor of Department of Systems, shared his research. The presentation was presided by Prof. Changgui Gu, Dean of The Department of Systems Science. The theme of the lecture is machine learning and deep learning in artificial intelligence. Liu Yuanhua, an associate professor of Bussine school, Wang Haiying, young teacher and more than 80 graduate students participated this lecture.

First of all, Dr. Meng gave a lecture entitled Understanding machine learning and deep learning in Artificial Intelligence. In recent years, thanks to the increase of data, the enhancement of computing power, the maturity of learning algorithms and the rich application scenarios, more and more people begin to pay attention to this new research field: deep learning. Deep learning takes neural network as the main model and was originally used to solve the representation learning problem in machine learning. Due to its power, deep learning is increasingly being used to solve some general AI problems. The report introduces the basic concepts of machine learning from the perspective of artificial intelligence systems, and then introduces the basic principles of deep learning from the perspective of artificial neural networks, and discusses the relationship between deep learning and neural networks. Three main neural network models, feedforward neural network, convolutional neural network and cyclic neural network, and their applications in various fields are described.

In the discussion session, Dr. Meng discussed many cutting-edge hot topics such as the application and related technologies of machine learning and deep learning with teachers and students, and many sparks of thinking were generated. The salon ended in a warm and pleasant academic rigor.
