In the afternoon of July 31, 2022, Business School of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) successfully held the 2022 National Summer Camp for Outstanding Students in Business Administration using Tencent Meeting. Professor Sun Shaorong, a famous scholar of USST, Professor Ye Chunming, the leader of the first-level discipline of business administration and the director of MEM program, Professor Ge Yuhui, director of the Department of Business Administration and the executive deputy director of EDP Center, Dr. Chen Zhiyong, the deputy director of the Department of Accounting, Dr. Tian Ying and Dr. Zhang Kai of the Department of Business Administration, Dr. Wang Wanjun of the Department of Accounting and other teachers' representatives, as well as nearly 80 students from various universities including “211” and “985” project universities across China attended the camp. The summer camp included an introduction of the school, detailed introduction of the disciplines, introduction of each department, reports on the frontiers of the disciplines, and face-to-face interaction. The atmosphere was warm and active!
The host, Dr. Tian Ying, firstly welcomed all the students to this summer camp and gave a brief introduction of USST and the basic information of Business School, its majors, disciplines, and faculty.
Professor Ye Chunming, as the head of the first-level discipline of business administration, mainly introduced the general status quo, development goals and enrollment of the discipline of business administration. He also gave a detailed introduction about the advantages and challenges of the discipline, the status and role of the degree program in the overall layout of the university, the direction and characteristics of the discipline, and the research and development achievements of the discipline. He hoped that students could take this opportunity to better understand the positioning of talent cultivation of the university, the cultivation goal of mathematical and intellectual business administration talents, the discipline and research direction of the school, and more clearly grasp the future goal and realize their dreams in life.
The introduction especially emphasized the cultivation and enhancement of doctoral programs in business administration in recent year: business administration and industrial engineering (direction of technology economics and management) were awarded the list of national and provincial (Shanghai) first-class undergraduate program construction points in 2021. A total of 8 talents have been employed in the past year. More than 30 high-level papers have been published, including 9 papers from SSCI Tier 3 or above. Three national projects and 10 provincial and ministerial projects have been approved. A group of teachers participated in overseas academic exchanges. The offline course of project management has been awarded the first-class course in Shanghai and is cultivating the national first-class course. The course of Human Resource Management was awarded as a model course of integration of party history learning education and curriculum in Shanghai universities. More than 10 awards were achieved for undergraduate and graduate students. Faculties received the second prize of Humanities and Social Sciences from the Ministry of Education. The cooperation project T Cloud Intelligent Marketing Cloud Platform won the third prize of the Shanghai Industry-University-Research Cooperation Excellent Project Award in 2021, etc.
Professor Sun Shaorong, a well-known scholar of USST, chairman of Shanghai Engineering Management Society and former leader of Business Administration, gave a report on the frontiers of the discipline: a detailed introduction to institutional engineering, a discipline of institutional design. Professor Sun mentioned that developing institution is an important method of behavior management, and introduced the main features of institutional engineering, the main research results, and the difficulties of process design in institutional engineering. The content was cutting-edge and systematic, which opened up the academic horizon of business administration for the students participating in the summer camp and aroused a very good response!
Finally, Professor Ye Chunming, Dr. Tian Ying and Dr. Wang Wanjun interacted with the students from various universities. The campers asked questions about their respective concerns, including admissions, research practice arrangements, training programs, scholarships, etc. The teachers actively gave detailed and patient answers.
This summer camp is held in the hope that students can broaden their academic horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the discipline of business administration through this camp, and it is also one of the important initiatives of the School to promote the admission of master students and attract outstanding students.
