Faculty Members from the Business School Attended the International Symposium in Kenya

From August 6 to 10, the International Symposium on the China-Kenya Joint Laboratory for Smart City Transportation was held in Kenya. Professor Zhao Jing, Vice Dean of the Business School, and Dr. Zhang Cheng, Associate Researcher from the Department of Transportation System Engineering, attended the event.

The symposium was organized by Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), in collaboration with the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). It was aimed at redefining transportation in Kenya to ensure a sustainably safe, reliable, effective and efficient movement of people, goods and services. The event involved participants from various organizations, including the Kenya Roads Board, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) as well as regional traffic reinforcement officers. 

Vice Deen Zhao Jing delivered a keynote report entitled “Traffic Design: Magically Enhancing Road Capacity”, introducing innovative traffic design methodologies to enhance road capacity. The presentation sparked lively discussions among attendees.

Zhang Cheng gave a keynote speech entitled Visual Intelligence for Urban Expressway Traffic Monitoring and Control, presenting a method for urban expressway traffic monitoring and control based on computer vision technology. Attendees expressed strong interest in the potential of these technologies.

Our faculty members also had in-depth discussions with representatives from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. They exchanged views on aspects such as joint doctoral programs, paper publications, and short term exchange programs.

At the end of the symposium, Professor Jairus Odawa from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology delivered the closing speech. The Chinese and Kenyan sides expressed their gratitude to each other and looked forward to promoting exchanges and cooperation.

 



This symposium built a platform for academic exchanges and cooperation between China and Kenya, and provided advanced concepts and technological references for Kenyan traffic researchers. It is of great significance for promoting the construction of the China-Kenya Joint Laboratory.
